  • SAW Offseason Jam Thread

Ramo and I are on two other forums that have ongoing threads for folks to post riffs, leads, songs, whatever you're creating musically. Seems like we should have that here.

No points, no pressure, just a place to chill out, post your jams and enjoy each others musical creations. You can post a YT vid, a project uploaded to Soundcloud, Bandcamp link, whatever, as long as the rest of us can listen to it, the sky's the limit.

Here's what I'm messing with right now:

Don't expect much, it's not like I'm a Rocket Surgeon...

I was thinking to do this here too but was not sure if the rest of the members would be up for it. Your song sounds like hummer smashing down and crushing everything.

    awesome stuff as always.

all you need is a phone or camera and a video editor.

I dont know how much time you have free, you have a brain, and it's not difficult to learn how to edit. If you want I can do it for you... I have time at the moment...

A short song (200bpm, though) that's a lot more straight-up death metal than most of my recent stuff, but here 'tis.

Dig it. Dying to hear the next riff in the progression.

Good stuff man! Hate how soundcloud squashes stuff, but I bet this sounds killer unmolested by SC.

I didn't comment earlier, but Megametal7's stuff always sounds nice and thrashy. Iron1's stuff generally has this really snarly, dark, grinding sound to it, which I did. (I listened to your first post when you first started this thread, but, just like now, I didn't know what to post other than just "cool stuff" ).

Thanks. It used to be that Soundcloud didn't sound great, but at least it sounded better than YouTube, but I think that nowadays YouTube actually sounds better than Soundcloud. It doesn't squash as much.

Two other songs that I wrote musically last year but that I wrote lyrics to and recorded vocals to very recently.

A kind of melodic death metal meets black metal meets prog kinda dealio? But darker? Kind of?

Kind of alternative metal and metalcore mixed with death metal? (Originally I wrote this completely with clean vocals, but I thought it sounded too much like the late 90s/early 2000s, so I redid all the vocals in more aggressive styles):

I just heard all the songs, the first one is super evil sounding, I like when guitars drop out and drum and bass grooving.. my fav part in that song is riffing from 1 min mark. The second song I like the most of the three.

The third one had a Sabbath type doom vibe to it.,great work.

                              Keep up the good work.

I actually did a track yesterday, since I had the day off...

I actually tried to get my bass (Ibby SR500) to handle a Bb, but it couldn't without new strings, so I found a local guy selling an Ibby SR305, and scooped it up to finish the track

Thanks, man. The second song is my favorite of the three as well. I didn't expect someone to say the third one has a Sabbath-type vibe, but I can kind of see what you mean.

You almost don't look like the same guy in those two riff videos, and I think it mainly just comes down to shaving or not.

Slow and groovy. The new bass sounds nice. I imagined before I even listened that it would be slow doomy metal/hard rock, and I was right. I like the parts in the middle with the higher notes over top of the low, sludgy power chords.

Thanks . It's rough, for sure, but there are some elements I really like about it. I need to get it in front of my band, to see what happens to the arrangement.

And yeah, I generally ping those notes, and kinda want to investigate some new chord voicings/fingerings when in a drop tuning. The one finger thing is nice on the bottom, but I'm basically fretting a Dsus2. With the one-finger-ness of the drop tuning, it means I have three fingers available to do something different

Best excuse ever to buy a new bass. "No, seriously, it's better than new strings..."

Very heavy riffs. Reminds me of Prong if they were cooler, heavier and less one-hit-wondery.

I've found Shot Cut to be useful, but sorta GIMP-like in that it is unintuitive as hell

But, it allows me to combine audio from Reaper and time-align it to video from either OBS Studio, or a file off my iPhone, or the Camera app native to Windows...

The song sounds heavy as hell, it sounds a bit like Godsmack. Saturation on tone is heavy too but notes are clear and it does not sound 'muddy'.

That's a Mk4 model on the L, and Recto on the R. No overdrives, actually. The Recto actually has less gain than I normally use for a Recto, but since the Mk4 is so crunchy, I instead wanted some depth of the fundamental from the Recto.
