Song and Cover a Week Season 1, Week 8 : FINAL

Final week, congratulations to everyone who has held on for so long and made it through!

    Iron1: 111pts
    Megametal7: 83pts
    Valtteri: 60pts
    Blazon_Stone: 40pts
    T Gobbs: 40pts
    Markus: 40pts
    desertdweller: 20pts
    Webdood: 10pts
    7 Dying Trees: 10pts
    Budda: 10pts
    tibernius: 10pts

Date for submissions is sunday midnight, always. I will check every monday around 10am where I am and total up points then.

We'll run for 8 or 10 weeks depending on participation.

    Anyway, here's the rules:
    - write one or more songs per week
    - cover one or more songs per week
    - 10 points for the first cover and first original song
    - points after that will be 5 for a second, 3 for a third, 1 for a 4th and 1 for every one after that.
    - apart from the 1st cover AND firs original, songs score like above. So you can submit a cover, a song, then 3 more of each say. this will give you 20pts for the first two, but then the next 6 will score 5, 3 and 4 times 1 giving you 32pts.
    - must be songs. 3 riffs stuck together do not a song make (otherwise it'd be easy to just submit 10 collections of riffs and get points, this is against the spirit of it all)
    - you're allowed 1 grindcore level joker song, but it still has to be a song. you must indicate this on your submission
    - submissions to be posted in this thread, soundcloud links, youtube, dropbox, whatever, as long as it can be played without paying something to someone.
    - you will not stealk from others except when doing covers
    - discretionary points awarded for extra work (like making a youtube music video, or anything entertaining)
    - submit by the time i have fed myself coffee on monday morning (but basically, sunday night somewhere in the world is your deadline).
    - all decisions by your benevolent dictator (me) are final

    Don't:
    - be a dick. songwriting is a skill you learn, and some may be better than others. By all means, give advice, encouragement, but don't go saying "this sux noob" etc. Penalties wil involve points deductions roughly equal to the amount of string and drum hits in the first minute of the liquid tension experiment 3 opening track.
    - steal shit of other people. covers are fine, lifting someone elses work and passing it off as your own, whether that be from a member, or from a different forum is not cool. Penalty for infringrement, see above
    - spam the thread with tons of non songs just to get points. If I feel someone is just putting crap up to score points for extra songs, I'll just not count the points.

Here's my next one. Like how this all came together - and no DAW corrupted file issues this week. :p

It's the last week and it's my first post in one of these Song a Week thingies, but I had this riff in my head last week, so I ended up writing and recording this in 2 days. I've been thinking of maybe starting a side-band / side-project separate from my main band after I get vaccinated since most of the stuff I write on my own sounds pretty different from my main band's stuff.

Awesome shit, vocals are super evil, my fav part is at 4;40 and when it picks up again.

          Great job.

Thanks. I liked your song too, especially the kind of intentionally "broken" sounding riff near the beginning and how it goes into that driving thrashy riff.

The song I posted was a new song I wrote and recorded last week, but most of the stuff I've been doing lately is just adding vocals and lyrics to songs I wrote instrumentally either last year or earlier this year. But this song is one that I wrote over 10 years ago for my band at the time, Exsanguination, but I decided to reprogram the drums and re-record all the guitars, bass, and vocals... maybe so I could use it in a band or something (since, although we played the original version of this song live, we never recorded it for a demo or EP or whatever).

Thanks. In the end, I like how that riff at 4:40 turned out, but at the time I felt I might be making it a bit too simple since I normally make more variants of a riff like that.

I listened to your songs in some of the earlier Song of the Weeks, and you had a ton of really tasty thrash riffs.

That's good stuff too! I think I dig the other one more, but will have to listen to them back to back.

Thanks, man. I have another song I wrote that's a lot more similar to the other one (Descent) in atmosphere and style, but I wrote and recorded that, like, 6 months ago (as opposed to Under the Necropolis, which I wrote 10 years ago but rerecorded within the past 1-2 weeks -- or Descent, which I wrote and recorded last week), so it doesn't really belong in this thread with the whole "written super recently" theme.

Here's my next one. Seems like s solid 'last song on the album' which feels right for the last week of this season.

Thanks brutha! You've done some awesome stuff, too. Love me some old school Slayer, so looking forward to what you have in the pipe.

Sounds great! Love that feeling of working on a guitar and then recording something cool with it when you're done.

O.k. here is my entry for this week, this song is Slayers vibe I had a hard time with a drum loop, and in many places, it does not flow as I want but I did the best I could.

It's a thrasher, I wanted to go back to my roots and make a thrash song so I did and I hope you guys dig it. on this one, it's all pedals and plugins tone-wise.

                                  enjoy
