Song and Cover a Week Season 1, Week 2

Probably one of the, if not the best, start to a season ever. We've had loads of entries, overachievements, videos and all round it's meant that I'm slightly regretting my points per extra song stuff (if you think my math is wrong, tell me).

I've handed out a discretionary video bonus for mr overachiever who managed 5 tracks, all with video, which were brilliant to see. I think drumming on the tree stump is one of my favourite things I've seen for a while.

Markus played the smart game by doing an original song AND a cover to net the maximum points for 2 entries

The standings after week 1 are:

Date for submissions is sunday midnight, always. I will check every monday around 10am where I am and total up points then. Starting this like 2 days early as I know some of you have been looking forward to this.

We'll run for 8 or 10 weeks depending on participation.

Anyway, here's the rules:
- write one or more songs per week
- cover one or more songs per week
- 10 points for the first cover and first original song
- points after that will be 5 for a second, 3 for a third, 1 for a 4th and 1 for every one after that.
- apart from the 1st cover AND firs original, songs score like above. So you can submit a cover, a song, then 3 more of each say. this will give you 20pts for the first two, but then the next 6 will score 5, 3 and 4 times 1 giving you 32pts.
- must be songs. 3 riffs stuck together do not a song make (otherwise it'd be easy to just submit 10 collections of riffs and get points, this is against the spirit of it all)
- you're allowed 1 grindcore level joker song, but it still has to be a song. you must indicate this on your submission
- submissions to be posted in this thread, soundcloud links, youtube, dropbox, whatever, as long as it can be played without paying something to someone.
- you will not stealk from others except when doing covers
- discretionary points awarded for extra work (like making a youtube music video, or anything entertaining)
- submit by the time i have fed myself coffee on monday morning (but basically, sunday night somewhere in the world is your deadline).
- all decisions by your benevolent dictator (me) are final

Don't:
- be a dick. songwriting is a skill you learn, and some may be better than others. By all means, give advice, encouragement, but don't go saying "this sux noob" etc. Penalties wil involve points deductions roughly equal to the amount of string and drum hits in the first minute of the liquid tension experiment 3 opening track.
- steal shit of other people. covers are fine, lifting someone elses work and passing it off as your own, whether that be from a member, or from a different forum is not cool. Penalty for infringrement, see above
- spam the thread with tons of non songs just to get points. If I feel someone is just putting crap up to score points for extra songs, I'll just not count the points.

Yeah, man, great to see a lot of new blood joining the fun. Life’s got me too busy to really participate, unfortunately. I’ve got 3 unfinished intros between the 2 pre-season weeks and the first official week.

Thanks - guitars are Soldano/Uber sims and the bass is Soldano as well. Love that you can use guitar amps for bass tones in modelers vs destroying your speakers IRL.

Not quite sure what part you're referring to, but there is bass right before the first DUHN DUHN part that leads to the clean part, if that's what ya mean.

Very cool. Love how punchy the bass and kick drums are. I could feel the bass in my headphones, which isn't a common occurrence.

Decided to finally get off my arse and start recording again. This is the first time I've recorded any guitar parts in 6+ years, so they're a bit rough in places.

I think we all have those weeks - but there's almost always at least one riff or part that's useable for something better.

Decided to finally get off my arse and start recording again. This is the first time I've recorded any guitar parts in 6+ years, so they're a bit rough in places.

Sounds like a backing track for Stranger Things - great job! Especially after 6 years off.

Makes me think of a faster, slightly heavier version of some ambient music I used to listen to years ago. Good job!

I’ll be able to contribute this week! I’m only saying this because the song is already written and the bare bones have been recorded already. I learned me lesson saying I’d able to contribute then life getting in the way.

Not sure how to classify this one as it’s not entirely new; 20 years ago when my buddy joined a band I started, he had this song he brought to us. We liked some parts, so we ripped it all apart and re-wrote it, much to his dismay at first. I’ve been trying to get him back into playing more and figured if we took this song and re-recorded it, he’d be more inclined to want to work on music. Since we couldn’t remember a single riff we actually played back then, or hated what we did back then, we just wrote entirely new riffs for it. The progression is close to the same, but since I had to write out an entire new drum arrangement and all the riffs, I’m counting it as a new song. I just had a structure to follow.
