Having just bought the Yamaha TRBX174, then upgraded the pickups with Entwistle Neodymium pups (that roar!) I was so not in the market for another bass.
Then, along comes Drache713 with this beauty for sale.
Drache and I have discussed me buying a Solar from him since right before the Pandemic started, as he always seems to have one or more for sale (seriously, dude, get Ola to make you the first US Solar Guitars retailer already).
Well, knowing he was in a cash pinch, and this was my least risky shot at getting my first Solar, I crunched some numbers and pulled the trigger. He shipped it stupid fast and it showed up this morning.
I've only had about 15 minutes to play it, but so far I dig it. The neck made me totally get the statement "a guitar players bass" as it's more like a guitar neck than any other bass I've ever played. Really digging the ergonomic tuners, too.
Tried to dial in a quick tone or two but it didn't get where the Yamaha is quickly, and I've seen a number of reviews that don't praise these Solar Tesla pickups, but I'm going to tone fiddle for more than a few minutes before passing any sort of judgement. Worst case, maybe I can get a set of the Ibanez Powerspan hums on the cheap to toss in.
My only real problem is now I have to sell the Yamaha. I really like paying it, it's fun, sounds great and is some serious bang for the buck. With the Entwistle's in it, it sounds awesome, too. But, in the end, when I look at the Solar I want to pick it up. When I look at the Yamaha, not so much.
So, if anyone's in the market for a sweet entry level bass with upgraded pups, the Yamaha is going up for sale later today.
And, if I could give Drache 5 star seller feedback, I'd give him 6!
