That would be cool with either a maple board or a dye job on the current one. All black guitars with brown rosewood just look weird to me.
There are a bunch of JPM knockoffs out there. I'd buy one but the "builders" always use the cheapest starting points, like $300 RGs with edge 3s and shit.

I am old. My back hurts for no reason, my hair is turning gray, I have a million responsibilities and no free time - but the tradeoff is that I don't have to play cheap crap anymore.

I am such a sucker for wine taurus tolex. I have many leather-bound books that smell of rich mahogany
Not buying this, but goddamn it's beautiful.

I’ve had a few parts mutts over the years and they are a ton of fun. Speaking of which, I probably need to put together a partscaster strat or tele sometime soon.

Early early Soloist (1984). Rare is an understatement.
Up for sale is my 1984 Jackson San Dimas custom soloist. Serial J0162. If you collect these, this might be the earliest soloist you get a chance to own. It's definitely going to be the cleanest. Check out these unique options - ebony fingerboard with dot inlays, 2 humbuckers, 3 way blade selector...
I question the seller's story about it being untouched, though.
Firstly, the notion of parents buying their kid a Soloist in 1984 as a starter guitar (yes, that's what he says) is extremely unlikely. This guitar has some features that were upcharges and were likely requested specifically--the dual hums with the blade switch, for example. The gold hardware would also have been an upcharge.
Second, the tuners, at least, appear to have been changed fairly recently. Early Soloists did have those Gotoh 90 degree tuners, however, that Gotoh logo on the back wasn't used until many years later--probably not until this century. Jackson/Charvels from the time had tuners with no logo, based on my '85 Soloist and on pictures of others I've seen.
I don't doubt this is an actual '84 Soloist, but I'm guessing there's been some work done on it.Last edited by jacksonplayer; 05-30-2023, 02:11 AM.

man i'm sad I missed the boat on USA Jacksons, and even the MIJ Pros -- I'd love a Soloist Pro or a Mustaine sig but the prices now are just outrageous.
In general I see the prices for used high-quality guitars and just think that there's no way people are actually paying the amount folks are asking for.
I suppose they are, though. Every day I regret getting a greendot instead of a PWH and the PWHs move further out of reach, too.

Shit, I have a $3500 bolt-on basswood Suhr.
