I've been eyeballing the PRS S2 series for a while now because I wanted a single cut to badly play classic rock on and don't really trust Gibson to deliver me the Les Paul of my dreams these days. Lo and behold, I made a discovery - you can dealer order S2s with core finishes and tops, and someone posted a mint one with a hard case for cheaper than what the normal ones are new. Naturally, I pounced.

This thing is loud as all hell unplugged and came basically perfectly set up (weird, considering it shipped cross country). Neck's a more vintage carve but I get on with thicker necks cause I have big hands anyway. I'm not sure I get on with the pickups, though - they sound good (and the push/pull to make them go single coil sounds a lot better than when my Schecter does it), but I kind of want something that sounds a little less thin and maybe a bridge with a bit more balls. Also, to truly be the single cut rocker of my dreams, it would need zebra pickups...I'm open to suggestions.

Duncan JB is a good place to start. From there, if you can describe what you like about the JB, and what you don't, we can (with about 90% confidence) point you in the right direction.

I've got two other guitars with JBs - I like that these are less hot and don't have the upper-mid thing the JB has but they just sound a little thin and harsh. They get closer to the "strumming big rock chords into a Marshall" thing than the JB, they're just not quite there.

Sounds pretty much like exactly what you want.

Firstly, gorgeous top, holy crap. Second, look into a Full Shred. Despite its name, it's a great pickup.

Yeah it's a total monster. I just ordered a set of zebra Marshallheads also.

I really dig the S2 line, especially with solid/metallic paint that really shows off the bevels. They're really putting some NICE tops on the S2 guitars this year.

My Dad Guitar dream right now is a PRS Triple Soapbar.

Wolfetone Timbre Wolf. It's a JB without the upper mid honk that everyone hates about the JB.

I've got Marshalheads in my Les Paul Custom. They sound exactly like what rock n' roll should sound like.
