You added tension because the strings played harder?
Occasionally you get a bunk set, it’s certainly happened to me a few times, but usually with tuning stability/snapping issues. Not sure where you live, but the weather is changing, getting drier and could certainly lend itself to wood shifting. When I lived in New England, this would be around the time I’d have to adjust some of the guitars I own that are more prone to shifting in weather changes. My JEM definitely didn’t enjoy the changing weather.
If you want more slack, though, I’d relieve tension from the neck instead of adding it. When I was setting up my PRS a couple weeks ago with 10’s, I wanted to get a little more slack in the strings so I just turned the truss rod nut an 1/8th of a turn, maybe less, and got it right where I wanted it. The perfect tension for me is where I’ve got to warm up a bit before the strings feel really good, just enough to put up a little fight, or I’ll bend everything out of tune. The Karmic Law is not kismet. I was going to post a thread about that, but then thought this is a group with like 1000+ years on guitar, no real need. As for getting an odd pack of strings every once in a while, in my avatar pic of my son Seamus (now 20) the UV has a bronze A string because that's what came in that pack

I'm a bitch when it comes to strings, man. If they sound the least bit dead I'll take the hour to drive to GC and back just to change them if I don't have a pack. I love the sound of new strings too much to not do it. But also, I've been recording the final tracks on a lot of stuff and there's a noticeable difference between dead strings and new strings, even when there's a shitload of distortion. And pinch harmonics just pop off the neck with new strings.....and they feel all smooth.
