  • Solar Guitars X Shape prototype

Ola had a lengthy statement about the Dean Guitars / Dimebag Estate issue, mostly to dispel any rumors about Solar Guitars taking on the Dimebag guitar models. He did decide to share this one image of an X shape Solar Guitar that’s been in development for over a year. No details when it might come out but if your weren’t down with the Ibanez Iron Label Xiphos, this might be more your style..

That upper wing looks waaayyy too thin for that last few inches (thats what she said). It's begging to break from the lightest bump.

No more than a Jackson Double Rhoads.

It'll get plenty of chips and dings, just like all the Jackson Vs do, but this looks pretty cool to me.

              I don’t believe Ola a single bit!

How many times in the past has he said “We have no plans for that”, then you find out there’s a prototype siting behind him as he’s saying it. I think the G-type and the basses that happened with.

There’s no one that would do the line any more justice than him and he’s got a working knowledge of both the Deans and Washburns.

The Karmic Law is not kismet. It is not fate but cause and effect. It is a taskmaster to the unwise; a servant to the wise.

Ola seems far too smart to get into that part of the business at the scale he's operating at. I'm sure he could make an excellent Dime tribute guitar, but dealing with the licensing and the royalties and all that shit would be a huge headache and possibly not worth his time.

Also, his business model is based around limited runs and direct ordering, rather than something you could buy at Guitar Center or Thomann. The estate would probably want wider retail availability like they've had in the past, and that opens up a whole other can of worms.

One problem for any builder other than Dean is that essentially they'd be getting into the business of copying another manufacturer's well-known design, if it's done right. I'm not talking of trademark/copyright issues, but just the marketing problem of being in the business of making a copy. Dime will always be associated with Dean. Anybody else is still just making a Dean, in effect.

Ola already said he wasn't getting involved because Dime didn't play his guitars.

Can't fault him there and I certainly agree with him.

I certainly see why they only made 5 of those.

As an aside, I found the Xiphos shape very comfortable to play. So much so, that I had borderline withdrawals when I sold it and went back to super shredder shape.

I disagree. 4 too many. Afterall, the one did provide excellent WTF material.
