  • Kirk Hammett endorses Gibson

The new partnership, Gibson says, will result in new Hammett signature Gibson and Epiphone guitars

Hammett said in an Instagram post that the move to Gibson does not mean he's leaving ESP Guitars, with whom he has had a decades-long relationship, saying, "With these two giants, I get the monsters… and the rock!"

This could be fun. I watched the beginning of a video with some "curator" at Gibson breaking the news with Jammett, and the first thing the guy did is start lecturing Kirk about taking care of Greenie.

I wonder how that worked out between Gibson and ESP. I’d imagine there’s some agreement that ESP won’t do any of the LP style Hammett models and Gibson won’t do anything S-style.

I think Hetfield said something a while ago about not being able to make something happen with Gibson and it was closer along the lines of what Bill and Brent from Mastodon said; they just weren’t really great to work with. Brent went a bit further than that and didn’t care about burning any bridges, but I think that’s just Brent being Brent.

Yeah, that was the old artist department management.

I remember someone else I think mentioning that? They liked dissolved the whole department or something in 2016?

Good for him. For all the negativity he gets from 'fans' he doesn't seem to whine or bitch much about it.

Nice. I noticed he’s always had a love for Gibsons.

Maybe the new CEO is smarter than Henry J was and realized selling Metallica guitars is a way to print money.

ESP built their company off of selling Metallica guitars. Gibson in the 21st century isn't too good to go that route either.

Why should he care? I mean, that's how he plays these days, too, but seriously.

Honestly, the best thing he's done in 20 years is his participation in the "Murder In the Front Row" documentary.

I will always give Hammett a pass. Dude never seemed to want to be a guitar hero or some icon of technical playing. He's always just been a sloppy shredder in a thrash band. Good for him.

He played Gibson's so, not surprised he wanted to go to Gibson, I think James will join him soon.

Dose anyone know why so many artists left Dean guitars? i was curios and did bit of search and came across article one of the guys in top management was charged for child porn. I don't know if that's true but here is that article if anyone wants to check.

I don't think they've ever had an exclusive deal with ESP to be honest, ESP is probably just happy to keep them around lol. It would be cool if they did a collaboration model KH-1 but I don't see it happening.

Fucked up management aside, it's probably because their guitars are all terrible looking.

According to Dean, Rusty Cooleys guitar 7 string one was most popular.

I do like ML but wish that headstock was bit smaller. I agree dean guitars never captured my interest to own them.

The couple of Cooley's I played were fine, although not totally to my tastes (the necks are really, really thin). The Vinman was cool, and I like the Vs and EXPs with the big split headstocks. The Peterson model was cool, too, and sounded good.

Everything new they've introduced has been blech. The Cooley replacement that's the inkjet-printed-on-plastic burl is :puke:

I did like their new V's after Mustaine left, its basically Mustaines V without his name on it. I never played Dean so I have no opinion on their playability and feel. Only one i like is Dime ML but cant get past the headstock :p

From their newer V's I like this the most.

The Cooleys are ridiculous looking. It's like someone's high school wood shop project if they didn't program the CNC correctly and made that hilariously, needlessly thin Chibanez looking lower horn.

I'm telling you when I say this. I played an early USA Rusty Cooley Custom Shop and it was by far one of the best, if not the best 7 string I've played in my life.
                                            It was tremendous.

Didn't have the funds. I should have traded my JP16 for it honestly. Sold it later on.
