  • If you were going to buy ONE high-priced guitar, what would it be?

While I won’t be blowing through the money I make off the house sale like a maniac, I would like to buy at least one “super nice” guitar. I’m not thinking like a new Suhr or anything, I’m thinking more along the lines of a ‘79 Les Paul Custom Silverburst, a JEM10, JEMEVO….something more on the rare side that’s going to keep gaining value.

Ideas currently floating in my head-

    ‘79 Silverburst LPC
    Ibanez JEM10
    Ibanez JEMGMC
    Ibanez UVMC (ATD)
    Chromeboy

I don’t really GAF about expensive guitars in general, but it’d be cool to have something that’s going to keep going up in value, even if I play it. This wouldn’t be a stage guitar or anything, but it definitely won’t get locked up in a case.

So if you had the option, what would be on your plate?

White ESP M-II, neckthrough w/ebony board. They did a short run w/black binding back in the day and it's been one of my albatross guitars forever.

i'd love a 70s travis bean. a 59 les paul sunburst, a 60s telecatser. all kinds of goodness.

i'd also really just love to find a fucking j iceman that isn't 7 grand. but i guess i'm asking too much.

As trendy/djenty as it may seem, I've got a boner for Aristedes. Would love to snag a 7, maybe an 8 but I've never played an 8 so no idea if I would ever use it.

That got me a little stiff because I immediately thought of these-

Edit-I can’t find a cool enough version of the white one I’m thinking of. I think Chris’ had the Tri-Ryche inlays.

I’ve gotta check one of those out.

I’m thinking something more along the lines of something that’s going to keep building value the older it gets. IE- you could buy a JEM10 for $2500 three years ago, now find one for under $7K and it’s usually in player condition. Or any of the older JEM’s for that matter.

The hard part will be staying away from some of the newer guitars I really dig and have an interest in, IE- Black PIA or a Majesty.

I figure if I knock out one, killer guitar that you generally only get one chance at owning in your life unless you’re making over $150K a year, I’ll be find throwing together a few partscasters and scooping up some shit I find for under $1K. I just know I’m gonna want at least one “Holy shit” guitar.

The Iceman’s Wes Hauch has make my knees buckle and I’m not even a huge Iceman fan. Goddamn those are fucking killer.

I definitely need a Tele, but I’ll probably just build one from parts instead of buying one made already, unless I find a really good deal on a ‘52 Reissue in Butterscotch (because I’m a Gilmour dork). I also need a guitar with PAF’s….I was thinking I might go in the Jazzmaster route for that. Really, anything Fender-y, I’m just going to part together.

Those Aristides do keep climbing in value and they're so small market, I think that trend is gonna continue.

I've got a soft spot for the Vigier Shawn Lane. Maybe Lucas will lend me his. 😅

There's only two for me- a JPM 1/2 or a custom built tele by Lucky Dog Guitars. I've had GAS since I saw this posted back in 2018. Their builds are consistently phenomenal.

Go players grade vintage - it'll go up but it wont be outlandishly expensive vs immaculate.

If I found a 70's tele with original wide-range pickups for the right price I'd want to check it out.

Aristides money gets you 70's gibsons and fenders iirc (at least around here).

Not in my opinion pancake bodies, fretless wonders, three bolt necks…..ew. Never played anything from the 70’s that made me want to shell out for it.

JPM top of the list too. Had a chance to score a mint one a few years back for under 3k and didn't have the coin at the time.

Yeah. They're hard to find these days and when they do come up in good shape they're usually at "collector" prices.

Here's a P3 for $4300. I think Cassidy has this one and another one, too.

Dream guitar for Dream Theater, Ibanez and John Petrucci fans. Very cool and rare JPM P3. All original with the Air Norton and Steve's Special Dimarzio's, viper neck etc. etc. Plays extremely light and the sound is ultra mega high-gain but sparkly clean or bluesy is also no problem if you ma...

I've always been partial to the camo one but I'd take any of 'em.

That’s the one I always wanted. The Cow. Problem is, while scarcity dictates prices, that’s just not a $4300 guitar. The EBMM’s are so much better guitars.

And I definitely need to add an Ibanez JPM to my list above. While I’d prefer a P3, I’d be just as stoked with a P2!

I think my general idea is - 1 super expensive guitar, like up to $10K, then maybe one other nice-but-under-$3K guitar….then all the partscasters I’ll toss together whenever I’m feeling like doing so. I’d love a couple Joe Holmes/Mick Mars Strats. Big headstocks and Floyd Roses FTW.

Well, I have one. The ESP Kamikaze IV star(I'll spare you all the pic )
But other then that, an Ibanez PGM200 and the other big PGM anniversary models I don't have. the 10th and the 90HAM. However, those are relatively cheap compared to the ESP.
