New Katatonia is Incredible!

I'm ashamed to say I forgot about this release until today and I was missing out. Been a while since I had a new album give me chills like this one does.

Hmmmm, not feeling the single at all. Doesn't sound like Katatonia to me and the message I'm getting from the video is 'Katatonia's management drive two dodgy slappers to London with a bottle of Jagermeister'.

Gonna go and spin the rest of the album in case this song is a mis-fire.

Yeah odd that they used this as a single, I have the album and skip that track every time. Vanishers and Rein would be my favourite tracks on the album. Particularly love the mid section in Rein. Overall I found it lacked the big riffs from the likes of night is the new day and dead end Kings.

Jonas really stepped up his game vocally on this one. Like he's actually trying now and not just sounding depressed as fuck.

Yeah, every music service constantly recommends Katatonia, but I've mostly found them really boring - partly because the singer's monotonous delivery.

I think the best I've heard him sound is on Swallow the Sun's "Justice of Suffering". He sings the choruses on this track:

I remember I did the same thing for the last album they put out. A buddy of mine is a huge fan of them and posted something on my FB page from the last album, to which I replied, “Is this going to be more of the “One.....one word....now two words” thing?”, he replied “Fuck You. Yes.”

I’ll definitely dig into this new one though. I loved the music and even dug the vocals until it got a bit repetitive. If he’s changing things up I’m more than stoked to listen!

Damn, I didn't even realize they'd released a new one. I'm enjoying it so far, I definitely agree that Jonas has stepped it up on this one.

I'll have to give this album a proper listen. I want to like Katatonia but frankly I can't tell one song from another since Tonight's Decision (1999). Caught their set at Wacken a few years back and ended up moving over to Amon Amarth after a few songs... which says something considering Amon Amarth aren't even close to being a musical variety act.
