Iron Maiden - Stratego

Has a much more Old Maiden Vibe to it. The famous Galloping and the Solo that I assume is Janick (not sure), since it sounds like Murray but not exactly him... also sounds a bit like inspired by something on Powerslave album. It's last the 20+ years Maiden with nuances of Old Maiden. Liked much better than the last released Song.

Altough the "sloppy" lead in the verses really is annoying as f*ck to me, that's so much better than the first one they've released.

it almost works! that sloppy lead is really annoying. you can't have a lead guitar playing along with the vocal melody, and then have it be really sloppy. what happens is exactly what happens in this song: it gets in the way of vocals and is distracting.

otherwise, i'm really sick of modern iron maiden production. they're not fooling anyone; i can clearly hear the things theyve done to take perfectly fine recordings and make them worse so that it's "more natural" or whatever steve harris thinks it is. what's the point of deliberately pulling the high end out of the drums and vocals? why turn the rhythm guitars down so low that they have almost no impact? i just don't get it. what's with their obsession with bad production? their 80s stuff was not badly produced, in fact a lot of it was really glossy and ahead of its time as far as metal goes. theyre trying to return to a time that never existed, and theyre doing it in a half-assed way. not by actually recording in a rough, raw manner, but taking good recordings and deliberately fucking with them until they sound worse.

The first lead guitar melody bothers my "music theory" sense a lot.

They barely even do any "tension and release"... They are continously putting "wrong notes" over the chords.

And then add the loud-as-fuck and out-of-timing keyboard in the end for reinforcing that authentic "we are beginner musicians and we dont know how to write a melody" experience...


If this was actually a garage band of 13-year olds I wouldn't mind about it, but this is written by the band that made songs like POWERSLAVE and SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON... come on guys

Just heard Senjutsu song, I did like some parts, I was thinking its a great build up to go into classic ,Maiden riffing but it didnt happen. I got bored half way and its 8min song....for that I dint like it overall.

The parchment is best song I heard from this album so far ,I like the exotic sounding riffing ,solos are good too, its sounds Maiden I like.

Lost in a world, again slow start when it picks up the pace nothing special, it has some classic Maiden parts, but it sound like a filler song to me.

By judging what I've heard so far this album is not worth buying for me.
