He's definitely really good - but he's not Ronnie James Dio...
Don't expect much, it's not like I'm a Rocket Surgeon...

I would rather talk about singers alive today

This dude has serious pipes, but Roy Kahn is the best metal vocalist alive if you ask me.

I'm not saying that I like his singing better than Dickinson, but Kahn is like the Petrucci of vocals. Dude is unbelievable.

Best metal singer is pretty bold statement. Russell Allen is right up there too. And for up-and-comers, it's hard to argue with anyone that mentions Dino Jelusick too. Both have Incredible range.

Every singer has a place I didnt mean "best singer in the world" like that everyone else just has to shut up.

But its my latest discovery and I am 100% blown away by his performance

Great pipes for sure, I would leave out "greatest" unless I put it in context like greatest to you etc. If not alive, and including rock singers.... Freddy Murcury..... but its all subjective as to what "good" is. Who do you know that could have sang Back in Black as well as Brian Johnson? Not a classic clean opra vioce by any stretch, but nobody on the planet would have delevered the goods any more badass than that track at that time.

He's badass. Thank you for sharing.

But this isn't Sir Russell Allen (Symphony X)?

The vocals of this song alone shows how Russell triumphs above everyone else.
He did the whole intro himself. His range is nuts but it's his control and power that sets him apart.

Arjen, who has worked with just about ever phenomenal Rock/Metal vocalist on earth (including Bruce Dickinson) even has said himself, he believes Russell is the best of his genre.

Go to 4:25 and you'll see why Russell sets himself apart by being able to incorporate other singing genre's into metal, in this case Blues/Soul. I mean this is just stupid.

Oddly enough, as the live shows a few years back indicated - the answer to this is Axl Rose.

I saw the tour, it was good for sure, but nothing like that original take.

I'm in agreement that Roy Kahn is up there, like top 1 or 2. That guy is phenomenal. Russell Allen, as well. I remember seeing him on the Iconoclast tour at Hawthorne Theater in Portland. That guy brought the place down. He has the most powerful vocals I've ever heard live.

Chris What is Roy's best performance with Kamelot that isn't a ballad with Simone?

                              Take your pick.

Choosing between RK and Russell Allen is like tacos vs burritos. They're both incredible but IMO Roy is bit better, especially when things get operatic.

Gah, "Black Halo is tremendous. I don't know... Take a listen to that Divine Wings of Tragedy (it's long). Russell's Operatic voice is on par with anyone else.
I've just never heard Khan the power as Russell has but he has great control. I really wish he was back in Kamelot.

My favorite thing Khan does is his subtle inflections with his voice phrasing, makes him very unique.

Here are a few of my favorite Kahn songs.

This one is a ballad, but Simone isn't in it, so it still meets your requirement

Love you to Death is an amazing song.

I always thought this performance was killer.
