Unexpected development: New Blaze Bayley album is fantastic

I know it's stupid, but I'll never hear his voice and not instantly hear the voice that disappointed the shit out of me as a kid when he joined Maiden. :\

I was lucky enough for my exposure to Maiden being Number of the Beast, The Trooper and then The Wicked Man, so it wasn't until some time later I even knew there as anyone else.

Blaze doesn't have what I'd call a great voice, it's kinda weird he got the IM gig at all tbh but I give him props for keeping it up despite being an unwelcome afterthought in the metal scene. That said, this album, his band really do the heavy lifting and the mix is really good. Could almost have anyone singing over it IMO.

Yeah he kinda got John Corabi'd. Not a great vocalist but not nearly as bad as his legacy would indicate.

The Infinite Entanglement trilogy is really good!
I have them all on CD, and saw him live a few times during that era (also, I did live soundtech for him once too!).
In general much better than modern Iron Maiden.

Yeah, I remember when my buddy picked up X Factor when it had just come out, was very disappointing, the music is great though.

I remember the video premiere of "Man On the Edge" on Headbangers Ball. Maiden were dead to me formt hat point on, so much, that I actually did not know about Bruce rejoining until I went to a party, where they blasted "Wicker Man", and I am like "Oh, damn, that new Bruce solo record sounds amazing" - and the dudes look at me like wtf dude are you high?

Talking about Blaze, his live guitarist does cool acoustic Maiden covers on youtube:

I actually love Wicker Man, great tune.

X Factor had some ok moments but overall I can’t take him and especially “Futureal” I cringe every time I hear it.
