  • Metal Church predicted System of a Down in 92-93

Huge Metal Church fan, David Wayne is one of my favorites of all time, but I listen to the Mike Howe stuff too.

Hanging in the Balance is a pretty good album in parts, and some crazies consider it their best, Gods of a Second Chance and No Friend of Mine are great. But 3:20 here.........

Every System of a Down song ever is based on the terrible vocal harmony at ~3:20 here. Seriously. Every one. You can't convince me otherwise.

The stuff at 3:25 ish I do, sort of, see it.

It's pretty similar to some SOAD stuff, where the guitarist sings in a soft voice with Serj Tankian yelling on top.

3:20ish on specifically, not the entire thing. That is literally every obnoxious System of a Down song ever. Down to the tight warbly falsetto of the higher, better singing voice in the harmony.

Hm. I had never heard that song before. According to Wikipedia, it was the second single off that album, but I'd never heard it before. Granted, I had only heard 2 of the songs off that album (BYOB being the one I heard a ton of). I can kiiiiiinda see what you're getting at. The Metal Church singer isn't bad at all in most of the song, but in all of those parts that correspond to the part you referenced around 3:20 (that's what? the third time he does that part in that song?), it sounds kinda crappy. I still don't think it sounds like SOAD, but I can kinda get what you mean.

I'll also mention that the distorted tones at the beginning of that SOAD song are kinda shitty (but are way better later in the song). What's up with that?

Plus, this kind of takes me WAY back to the early 2000s, but I remember liking Serj's vocals, but hating Daron's. When Daron released his solo album (or was it just an SOAD song where he was the only singer?), it really hit home just how much I hated that guy's vocals.

No, cuz I would listen to this more than once.

(But yeah, I see what you're saying, when Daron is yelling like an asshole everywhere and Serj is actually singing)

SOAD totally obliterates Metal Church (Never liked them) in every sense.

SOAD was a totally fresh band when it came out, like it, love it or hate but they were in fact different and they made a difference, Metal Church was just another "Thrash" band that no one one really cared to be honest.

This is as close to being Un-Narened (exonerated from a Narening? a retracted Narening?) as it's possible to get.

Someone get me a notary, I want this moment recorded for historical purposes.

"I don't see it. At all." doesn't exactly rise to the rank of a Narening. Generally with a Narening, you are taken down with facts and a cold, hard reality check. This was simply me being unable to see how you could possibly see SOAD and Metal Church as being even remotely similar in any way. While I still disagree with you, your clarification helped me see what you mean.

What weird recursive madness is this? Did you just Naren me to describe what a true Narening is?

This is truly some weird "the wyrm ouroboros devouring its own tail" shit.

                      It's headvoice, not falsetto

Narenception. Or is it an Inceptionaren?
