This timestamp in particular:
This is the best version in YouTube! Speed corrected and remastered version of Nightwish' epic Showtime-Storytime Blu-Ray (Live in Wacken Open Air 2013). Due...
If that doesn't work, it's Amaranthe. Not my favorite Nightwish song but what a fucking ridiculous peformance by Floor. The original is a different singer with a pretty different range/cadence/style and Floor just CRUSHES it.

She's so much better a vocalist than Anette was -- I saw Nightwish with Anette like 15 years ago now on the Dark Passion Play tour, it was really disappointing because they replaced Tarja with a vocalist who either wasn't able to do a huge amount of their earlier material, or they decided that their fans weren't terribly interested in hearing the heavier tracks from their back catalog.
I had a similar experience with Sonata Arctica with whatever guitarist replaced Jani. I'm here thinking they're gonna drop some bangers like Wolf and Raven or Don't Say A Word, but instead it was all ballads. Arsis opened for them, though, so it definitely wasn't a total waste when I just left halfway through.
I will say that all these bands whose instrument-playing lineups have undergone so few changes over the years are hella tight live. They just feel it right, listening to a live band like Metallica, Iron Maiden, or Nightwish (At least in 2013 when this was recorded and the original lineup was intact) is so different from listening to a band that undergoes more rapid lineup changes live is remarkable.
I guess they could be playing to a click but I like to think they don't.👍 1Comment

Century Child had just been released when I got into music and metal, which I listened to a lot, so it has special place in my heart.

I guess it's a sort of a mix between Jani era SA and Anette era Nightwish in general; it's maybe not as good as the best of their old bands, but I still dig it.Comment

Anette is a talented singer and delivers a lyric better than either Tarja or Floor. However, she doesn't have the powerful voice to sing the heavily orchestrated material that Tuomas started writing around the time of Century Child. Tarja didn't either, and it's obvious that Tuomas was starting to write with someone like Floor in mind.
Floor is one of my favorite singers and has been since long before she joined Nightwish. The last After Forever album might still be the best thing she's ever done. The most recent Nightwish album was better at showing her stylistic range than the previous one was. Yes, it's all pretty corny, but still..

I know a lot of people don't like some of their later stuff, but man I think Once, DPP, and Imaginaerum are one of the best run of 3 albums out there.👍 1Comment

My problem with Floor in Nightwish is that she doesn't get to write from what I'm aware of, which bums me out. Otherwise she's my favorite and absolutely delivers.
It's a bummer they also lost Marko, he made a huge difference in the band.
Targa and Anette were great too. Obviously, Anette was not Tarja or Floor but man she can deliver a pop vocal. Tremendous. I love it.
Though, Floor being my favorite singer. After Forever isn't my favorite thing she ever did. It's Star One with Arjen Lucassen. She crushes with Dan Swano, Damian Wilson and of course, Sir Russell Allen.
I also love this video:
That all being said, this is my favorite Nightwish song and I don't understand why they don't play it more.
Zero - More than likely they are. When I was in my Progressive-Symphonic Metal band, we had tracks for Orchestra, etc. But we had the click in the drummer's ear. So he led us through the Orchestra changes and etc. The rest of us just played to him. Clicks ruin the experience in-case none of y'all have ever done it. I had to play some Trans-Siberian Orchestra music with a band on a float last year and there were no monitors obviously, aside from the P.A. Speakers in front of us. So everyone had in-ear monitors, I got so sick of it. That ripped them out and just listened to P.A. and counted in when I needed. In my opinion, clicks make you weaker live. You lose the moment and intensity. You should be able to rehearse good enough as a band where you don't need that type of assistance, studio is different. Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater (early years) never did it. So why now? Sorry. End of rant.Last edited by Ghost.; 05-13-2021, 04:56 PM.Comment

Once is great. Much heavier production, was the first album of theirs I really got into. Those other two are fun albums as well.Comment

If you're in Steel Dragon, you do the Steel Dragon thing. And the Steel Dragon thing is that A.C. and I write the songs. And you sing the songs that we write.

Mine, too. Ghost Love Score was the first song I ever heard from them, and its still my favorite. I definitely like the production of Once best, and its closer to a "metal" album. Imaginaerum just has that special something for me.Comment

Whole video has captions too, which are always neat to read along with.Comment

GLS from that Wacken is just phenomenal. I've watched this probably 30 times over the last year. The editing is spectacular too. I don't know if it's clever editing or if Floor just writhes in slow motion naturally but I like to think it's the latter.

That is an awesome performance, I love that video.Comment

Once is my favorite album but I think Tarja is my least favorite singer they've had. Even still, here's my favorite from them...and it's a cover.
I caught them (early 2012 maybe?) when they toured on Imaginaerum - both my brother and I thought they sounded absolutely fantastic. Even better - Amorphis opened for them.Comment

Glad to see them pressing on either way. They're playing over here on Oct 8 but since I'm apparently an adult now I actually have plans that far out that I can't break to to see them. :\Comment

I get that bands need to do this to pay the bills, but that's a wee steep when you can just scroll to the OP in this thread and watch the best live performance they've ever done instead for free.

Marco's vocals are going to be tough to replace. That guy has an amazing voice.
I'm not paying for the virtual concert, but I don't think the ticket price is all that bad, considering. They're making it into a production, and not just shots of them in their living rooms. Also, have you seen what big arena/amphitheater concert tickets are going for lately?Comment

Troy's going to handle the backing vocals, and apparently they're just going to drop songs that primarily featured Marco, such as The Islander.Comment

Dead to The World
Slaying the Dreamer
Feel For You
Phantom of the Opera
Wish I Had An Angel
Planet Hell
The Siren
Romanticide
Higher Than Hope
The Poet and the Pendulum
Bye Bye Beautiful
Master Passion Greed
The Islander
7 Days to the Wolves
Taikatalvi
Ghost River
Slow, Love, Slow
I Want My Tears Back
Rest Calm
The Crow, The Owl And hte Dove
Last Ride of the Day
Song of Myself
Weak Fantasy
Yours is an Empty Hope
The Greatest Show on Earth
Endlessness
I don't mind them dropping "Bye Bye Beautiful", though. That song sucks ass.Comment

The ones where he dueted with the female singer will stay, with Troy handling those vocals. It's the songs where Marko was the primary singer that will be dropped.
The first of these shows was earlier today, and the reviews indicate that Troy did a good job. He's a good singer.Comment
