Soldano SLO100 (+4x12 Cabinet) Build Thread

Behold! A Soldano SLO build thread.

I've had a client ask me to make them a Soldano SLO100 head and matching straight 4x12 cabinet adorned in the most tasteful choice we know as Snakeskin tolex. Plenty of pictures and videos incoming.

A couple of tweaks. Warren Haynes mod, depth mod etc.. nothing too overly wild by comparison to some of the other ones out there

Now for some pics! Aside from two components (of which should be here any moment now), I've populated the boards. The beauty of those fat ol' caps.

Awesome. Did you pay out the ass for NOS vactrols or you go the Chinese route?

Nice spot of progress today! Down the preamp sockets, hooking up the power board, connecting the pots, adding the FX loop mod and general tidy up next on the agenda. The locals are about to gain a new found appreciation for amazing high gain tones! Click image for larger version

What is the extra board for?

If you're talking about the one on the far right, guessing it's an effects loop board, I can see send/returned printed on it.

Been a while, hope you're all well. I've been making some sporadic progress and here is where it's currently at. Connecting up to the preamp sockets from the board, tying up some loose ends (not literally lol) and installing the FX loop! This'll be a treat.

All that remains is some voltage testing and installing FX Loop mod!

But wait, there's more?! 4x12 cabinet build up next.

Looking really tidy. Are you planning on doing the normal pre-EQ SLO loop, or a post EQ (I think the new SLOs have this)?

Thank you, it's a wonder what some wire bending tools can do. Surprisingly therapeutic, especially when it all falls into line

The client I am doing the half stack for wants to run all kinds of fancy things through the loop. The plan is to keep the stock loop so I'm adding a SS loop post tonestack so it won't alter the sound too much (of which I suspect would otherwise make it more aggressive and modern sounding like the new SLO). There's also the added bonus of making it brighter without the stock loop, kind of handy since the client is a huge Landau/Lukather fan. I'm delivering the half stack to the client this coming Sunday so I'm expecting a plethora of every kind of rack unit and other 80's audio artifact I've never heard of and then some after to be going through it. It'll be a laugh nonetheless

I've got the regular pre-tone SLO loop in mine, which I did the 0db mod for pedals. It's OK, but not the best sounding loop. I'm wondering about adding a metro loop after the tone stack as I've got a board lying around.

If you are wanting to use pedals especially delays & reverbs your best bet would be to mod the stock loop to be post master and add a global master volume.

Not too hard a mod and works super well.
