Stupid BrOla making me GAS for a stupid Badlander...

Man, this sounds SO FREAKING GOOD... GAH!

Don't expect much, it's not like I'm a Rocket Surgeon...

    That sounds great.

The Badlander does sound great (and Ola's tones in that video are sweet). If I was going to buy an amp, it'd definitely be on the list, but I doubt I'll ever buy another amp in my life.

I really do have GAS for one of these, since it sounds great and would remove a couple of pieces of gear from my rig.

Also, love the 7s with maple necks and H-S. Just, why the damn blade switch?

I have absolutely zero need for one. But, 100% want for one...

I can't even make that logic leap. But, it would sound incredible with my two Black Shadows...

I so love the Badlander. It could have had MIDI or a 3rd channel, but I'm so happy with how it sounds it really doesn't matter to me.

Have you mocked it up in your FM3 yet?

I've tried but failed so far. I think the recto red 1 with el34 power stage is a great place to start.

I can’t even play the 2x12 I have with Black Shadows in it in my apartment. Maybe if it had the back of the cab that it’s supposed to, but it’s so fucking boomy that even at low volumes, my studio just fills up with bass and this “OHHHMMMM”. The one time I went and jammed with some other dudes I brought that cab and it swallowed my buddy’s XXX half-stack like a whale eating a goldfish. I wasn’t half as loud as he was, but I was taking up ALL the fuckin space in that room.

Yikes. Are the speakers wired out of phase? Could be a cause of the boominess. Recto 2x12's are renown for being tight.

It's originally a closed back cab and someone removed the back panel. It sounds KILLER, but it's like all the low end just shoots out of the back of it. I might get around to cutting out a new backing for it to replace it next week.

Oh, I think I missed that

I've got an open-back 1x12 with a Black Shadow, and it does pretty OK on the low-end, in that it fills the room, but isn't overbearing. But then, the speaker has a bit more room in the cab than I think what the speakers experience in the 2x12.

Mine's quite a bit smaller than the Line 6 2x12 I have, I have no idea what year it was made or what model it is, but I won't even plug it in inside my apartment.

I have a hard time dialing in a recto sound on the axe. 5150, recto, anything real mid scooped and dark is tough for me.

I can't wait to crank this thing up and see what it can actually do. I got this for $150.

Have you done the whole "push it up against the wall" to simulate a closed back? Bet your neighbors love it.

The cab I built sounds better with the back off. When I had it on, it sounded a little boomey. With it off, it's just all glory, all the time. Can't wait to fire up both of the cabs this weekend for the first real test.

                                        My prefs:

                                        V30: Closed back
                                        C90: Open back

If I had to pick just one to own, it would always be closed back, simply because your amp always sounds the same regardless of where the cab is. (So if you dial the thing in against a wall and move it out an inch, not much changes.)

I can't say enough good things about that C90 cab though.

Check out York Audio’s DV77 IR pack. I slapped one on a Recto Red with all the knobs at noon and didn’t even have to tweak, it was recording-ready with everything at noon. Totally not how a Mesa works IRL, but I use those IR’s on the majority of my high-gain presets now because they’re fucking GREAT. I’ve probably got 10 different Recto cab IR packs and nothing really touches that DV77. I’m even using it on some rock/classic rock presets and clean tones.

My only issue with this amp is I can't for the life of me figure out where it's supposed to fit in, in the Recto product line, that another amp doesn't already do.

Near as I can tell, from every clip I've heard and from the way Mesa talks about it, this is another riff on the idea behind the Stiletto, an EL34 compliment to the Recto, except mirrored to what's basically an unmodified Recto preamp, in a two channel package. I honestly don't see what this amp does that a Rectoverb 50 with a set of EL34s doesn't already do. Admittedly, a Rov50 with EL34s is a pretty ferocious, raw, aggressive amp... but I guess this is marketed for players who don't want to hunt down clips of a Recto with different power tubes...? I guess...?

I played a gig with an old-school closed-back Mesa 4x12 with C90's. The instant my other guitar player started in through his V30 4x12, I was buried. So, it'd be a really loud fullstack, but it'd just be noise, and not much actual tone

Interesting. Maybe after I tire of the 2 C90s, I'll slap a V30 in one of my cabs and see how that sounds. I used to run 2 Carvin 412s, one had V30s, the other some sort of really deep JBLs, the model of which I can never remember, and they mixed so, sooo well. Maybe a bottom cab with C90s and a top with V30s would do the trick.
