    N(old)CD

I was looking around FB Marketplace last week and saw "Mesa Boogie 2x12 $150", look at the ad and see it's my buddy I've played in a couple bands with selling it, so I snatched it up!

It was originally a closed back that had the back panel removed, so I'll replace that and find a new badge for the front. For $150, can't really beat that. I had to let it sit in my shed for a week because it reeked like fucking cigarettes, but it's all good now! I played his Friedman JJ through it and it's definitely on the darker side, I'm going to jam with a drummer tonight for shits and giggles so I'm going to dial in a few tones with the AxeFX now and see what I can get out of this thing.

It will be both brighter and tighter closed back.

The darkness I found when building cabs is always due to any open portions making the bass spill into the room more which generally overpowers the midrange a fair bit

My Lonestar Clone gets boomier with the back closed and more clear without it. Haven't had a ton of chance to really crank it either way, but that's the result I've had at drown out the conversation volume.

I loved the Splawn Nitrous just through my studio monitors, but through this cab......Godayam. That jam with my buddy and his drummer buddy was a fucking nightmare. They were both wasted and could not play the same thing the same way two times in a row, but instead of realizing this, I spent the night with this "drummer" I just met busting my balls for "spending all that time learning technical bullshit and you can't play the simple shit". He went off on a rant how this was his and my buddy's band and no one else's several times while any notion of me playing with them again was out the window before I even had my shit set up.

But that cab sounded great! My other 2x12 has some WGS Retro 30's in it, I'm anxious to hear the two cabs mixed together as the Retro's are like a less harsh V30.

This is pretty spot on. The amount of low end filling up the room, either at my house or at the drummer's house was pretty nuts. My buddy was playing through a Peavey XXX half-stack, I was using a solid state Peavey XXL to power the cab and I filled that room up a hell of a lot more than he was.
