  • Reverbs

Comparing these two is quite interesting. Looking forward to compare them to my Chase Bliss Dark World this weekend.

I used to hate reverbs before, but I’ve gotten a bit more down the pedal rabbit hole lately, for sure.

Mix knob ftw. Didnt know they had a new one out.

Reverb is great, mild to wild.

I’ll see more tomorrow. I’ve not been that thrilled with it. Pretty sterile-sounding, though the plate hall and spring are good.

They’ve got a lot of new pedals that look interesting, but for some reason I have a mental roadblock when it comes to Fender and pedals.

Reverb is the best. Have you gotten the chance to play through a flint yet?

Yeah the Flint is cool. A little too limiting for my tastes, but it’s a good pedal for sure.

Jeff Im assuming you've messed with most of the parameters and types in the bigsky?

The empress reverb and dr scientist atmosphere are hella cool as well. Sometimes I wonder what the poly digit/beebo can do with theirs too.

I haven't tried a BigSky but I had a BlueSky and it was fucking awesome. I bought this combo after someone posted this video back in the day:

Yeah I’ve played with it quite a bit.

The best parts of the Big Sky are the plate, spring and room, which is what the Blue basically is. Definitely would recommend that for people that like just a great, normal reverb.

The rest of it’s (BigSky) just kinda gimmicky, IMHO.

And yeah that video sounds great for sure.

Not a fan of reverbs generally (more of a delay guy) but I do love my BigSky and Ambi Space. They're great whenever I need them.

And while I love the BigSky, it's also responsible of popularising the shimmer effect that gets overused by every P&W guitarist ever.

Yeah it’s got a lot of that shit on there that no one outside of a church will use.

To each their own. It’s just got too much shit on it for me to want to spend $480 on. The Blue is perfectly fine for me.

I did use the some of those algorithms liberally on a song or two...

...which, kinda makes me a hypocrite, but whatever.

Reading my post before I know it sounds like no one needs the Big Sky outside of a church, but what I should have said was I don’t need it; I’m not creative enough to get anything out of it that doesn’t end up sounding like space whales fucking.

This is what 99% of reverbs sound like to me. They'd be cool if I was in college with a bong in one hand and a guitar in the other, but as an adult it's just weird noise I don't bother with.

yeah realistically I just want a great plate, spring and room, especially since I’ve already got the Chase Bliss which will do space whale humping in spades. The Blue Sky looks like the direction I’ll be going. The R1 is cool, but there’s just too much shit with it I don’t want to deal with and/or learn.

I found out you can push reverb to near oscillation in the axefx, tried that with the ambience type. Pads be damned

My EQD Space Spiral does that, but it’s a delay not a verb. Pretty fun though.

I think I’m going to go for the Blue Sky. It’s just what I need. I’ll keep the Dark World on the board too, for space whale farts. 😂

I like my Blue Sky. Honestly though I'd probably get more use from a Flint as I'd use a trem more than some of the crazier reverb settings on the BS.

Thanks! Really glad you liked it!

The BlueSky is a good call for what you'll be using it for. The BigSky is just that with extra frills and midi capability, and all that is nice and all, but realistically, most natural reverb you get in an actual room is enough and most players (even the church guys) don't really need to be changing various reverb presets.

I remembered when I first bought the BigSky and got all of the gimmicky stuff out of my system and used it all over my album (choir of vocals, cloud on a song about clouds etc ). I lent the pedal to my co producer during mixing and he got it out of his system too. But he ended up buying the BlueSky because of it since he didn't really need all the fancy stuff. I was actually planning on getting a BlueSky myself for one of my boards, but then Free The Tone released the Ambi Space, which is a happy middle ground between the two.

I actually have my first Strymon on the way. It's one you would least expect me to pick up too. But I just watched a few videos on the R1 from Jeff's post, and that's an incredible reverb pedal. Tempting too.
