  • MESA/BOOGIE Megathread

New site = Excellent opportunity to consolidate the Mesa/Boogie talk in one place so there aren't a thousand different stream of consciousness anecdotes about how the Rectifier design changed your life fractured across a million different threads.

Someone is eventually going to do a biblical style retelling of the genesis of the Rectifier design, and it might as well be at the top.

All Mesa Boogie talk welcome here. From discussion of how the name is pronounced (hint: The correct pronunciation is pronounced like Jar Jar Binks would say it) to discussions of just how best in class the 5 year transferrable warranty us,

Did you have a stupid question about Mesa Boogie? Did you think the Mark 5 was the signature model of John 5's lesser known brother? Were you wondering just how supple the included slip covers are? Confused about what the Rectifier models are actually rectifying? (don't worry, no one really knows) Here is the place to ask the resident experts.

Yeah, but do you have eight cabs to go with it?

I used to, now i just rock my 2 cabs, 200 watts per cab, it's enough. in fact everyone keeps telling me how loud and "awesome" my tone is. they describe the sound like "hey can't you fucking turn down" and "fuck you, you're never playing here again"

          i dig it.

Studio Preamp + 2:90 is still some goodness. I sold my old DC-10, the TriAxis years ago, and last year sold the mighty Roadking. The Studio/2:90 won't be going anywhere.

You know I'm going to post a new thread when there's a new amp, right? And then I'll also post about it in this one. I can't help myself, because Boogies are awesome.

No, I'm just kidding. Just seems like I've been waiting forever.

                              Road Kings rule.

I also have an Express 5:50 that kicks ass, I like it way more than I was expecting to.

Hell yeah Mike! I love most of the amps Mesa has put out over the years, Duals and Triples being right up there as some of my favorites too. I have a MW Dual Rec right now and it's not going anywhere anytime soon either.

Recently, I've seen a few Mark IIIs come up for sale, and I've been considering picking one up just for the heck of it. Jake from the old board (Angel's bassist) had one years ago when he and I played together, and his Mark III 1x12 combo kept up flawlessly with my 4x12. Super loud, aggressive, crunchy amplifier. At this point any I'd buy would have to be serviced and re-capped, but it's definitely a thought.

I miss mine, but thinking about grabbing an old Single again. I'd be my third one... 1st, I couldn't get the clean channel to balance and sound good, and I wanted to use it for coverband live shows, so I sold it. Bought another one after figuring out how to dial the clean channel in on my Roadking, and loved it... but my dad was looking for an amp and it really fit the bill, so I gave it to him. I sold the Roadking because it wasn't getting played (the Recto models in the Fractal are pretty spot on), but maybe another Single would be fun...

Of course, I still have the Stiletto and a heavily modified Nomad 100. Likely won't sell the Stiletto unless I need to, and who's going to buy the Nomad, honestly

A good Mk. III is a wonderful thing.

I've got 3 old Mark combos and there is nothing in the world louder than they are. The Mark III is the best of the bunch. If you ever have the chance, you definitely won't be disappointed with one.

I've never owned a Mesa. Man, I do want a Mark V, though.

Over the years I've had a Rectoverb, a Mark V, a Mark V:25, Road King, and Express 5:50. Wish I had kept the Mark V, I'll snag another one someday probably. But the Mark models in the Axe-FX III are pretty killer, so there's that at least

The closest I was able to get to my Studio/2:90 sound is the "USA Lead +" model, which I think is the Mk4.

Yup. I also just realized (after owning a Standard, a II, and now a III) that the USA Pre models are Triaxis. So I'll probably dig in to those next time I feel like building a new patch.
