  • NAD - Bogner

Here is my latest acquisition - 2005ish Bogner Uberschall Rev Blue. It showed up a few weeks ago but the pilot light was not working and I finally got around to fixing it last weekend. It sounds huuuuuge with a lot of clarity, and the clean channel is actually really nice as well. It came with JJ EL34s, though I may want to try E34Ls as well.

The only issue is whoever packed for the seller used some foam that sort of fused with the tolex in one spot, so I have to figure out how to remove it. Otherwise it's clean.... The guy I bought it from had it for 10 years and only put maybe 10 hours on it in that time.

Awesome. I've always wanted to try a Bogner. What do you think of it?

It's not an easy amp to dial in - you have to dial it with your ears, not your eyes. The presence works more like a mid shift/contour than how your typical presence control works. I need to spend more time with it, but I'm definitely in the ballpark of where I want to be. It seems to have plenty of gain while still having clarity, a big punchy bottom that can get out of control quickly and thick chewy mids. The cleans are surprisingly nice too, since a lot of reviews say the clean channel is shit.

I really wish those had more gain.

Clearly they're not suitable for metal. Great rock amp, though.

                        Maybe 70s rock. Not 80s.

I put EH 6CA7s in mine and love them. They’re not too expensive either.

Ew. You're talking about playing those not-flat guitars without 24 frets or high output pickups that give the purest distillation of my super-articulate picking.

I will have to try them... how do they sound compared to the EL34s?. I also bought a low hour set of Gold Lion KT77s I want to try as well.

Nice, I had one of these watched on reverb forever and ended up getting a diezel instead but would love to try one of these

The 34s I had were old, and I didn’t do a side by side. I swapped the tubes at the same time I had a blown screen resistor changed.

I bought a set of KT77s for mine too, there wasn’t enough range on the trimmer to get them to bias, and I don’t want to mod the amp. I’m just going to buy a KT77 amp for the tubes.

Nice! Another in a long line of amps that I'll hear other people play and they sound amazing! But as soon as I plug into one, I can't get a decent tone to save my life.

With the right OD anything is possible. Toss a Sunset in front of it and destroy.

Interesting. Is yours a Rev Blue too? Mine has just enough adjustment.... All the way down and it biases just fine with the KT77s.

Mine is one of the first 200. I don’t remember if that’s blue or green.
